The following information is shown for each backup schedule:

  • Backup Name : The name of the backup schedule as configured by the client. Clicking on the link here opens the Server Side Backup Schedule Report page which gives the detailed Backup, Restore, Delete, Retention and Replication Reports for the backup schedule.

And the icon in this column can be in different states. The following describes the different states the backup schedule can be in:

    Backup : Triangle icon.

    Restore : Inverted triangle icon.

    Delete : Cross icon.

    Replication : Play Triangle icon.

Move Backup : Double Triangle icon.

Running Retention Cleanup : Rotating arrows icon.

Server Disaster Recovery : Angular green pointer with a red spark.

Export Backup : Dotted green arrow icon.

  • Backup Location : The directory in which the backup data from this backup schedule is stored. The details are available in the mouse over-pop-up dialog over the backup name link.

  • Status : The status of the backup indicates whether the backup is idle or backup is in progress or restore is in progress or replication is in progress or delete is in progress or move backup is in progress or retention cleanup is in progress or Server disaster recovery is in progress.

  • Last Backed up Time : The completed time of the last backup when the client backed up at least one file.

  • Last connected time : The time the client last connected to the backup server for running a backup process. This includes backups where client connected to the server but didn't upload anything to the server.

  • Files : Total number of files backed up as part of this backup schedule.

  • Used Space : The total amount of disk space used by the backup data from this backup schedule.

  • Original Size : The original size of this schedule's backup data in the client.

  • Actions : The icons under this column are links to various features to enable you to administer and manage the backup schedule of clients.

    1. Abort Backup (Applicable only to Backup server) : Clicking on this icon aborts the backup immediately and no further data will be transferred to the backup server. However the backup will resume at the next scheduled time.

    2. Suspend Client Side Restore (Applicable only to Backup server) : Clicking on this icon suspends the Client Side Restore (Restore initiated from the client), but can be resumed only from the client side. The suspended restore process will remain suspended till it is resumed from the client again.

    3. Abort Restore : Clicking on this icon aborts the Client Side/Server Side Restore.

    4. Suspend Server Side Restore : Clicking on this icon suspends the Server Side Restore (Restore initiated from the server). The suspended restore process will remain suspended till it is resumed from the server again.

    5. Resume Server Side Restore : Clicking on this icon resumes the Server Side Restore (Restore initiated from the server).

    6. Activate/Deactivate Backup : This Activate/Deactivate action can help the Backup Server administrator to decide whether to accept/reject the individual client's backup.

If a backup is Deactivated for a client on the Backup Server, further backup schedules from the client for that backup will be rejected by the backup server.

Backup Server Administrator can Activate the client backup again by clicking the same action.

    7. Replicate Now : This "Replicate Now" action will immediately schedule Replication for a particular backup if the replication for the backup is in idle status.

    8. Resume/Suspend Replication : This "Resume/Suspend Replication" action is used to resume a suspended backup (for replication) or to suspend a backup (for replication) when it is either idle or in replication progress.

    9. Proceed to Restore Backup : Clicking on this icon takes you to the server side restore page where you can restore the backed up data.

    10. Proceed to Delete Backup : Clicking on this icon takes you to the delete backup page from where you can delete the backup data associated with the schedule.

    11. Run Retention Cleanup : You can run the retention cleanup process by clicking on this action. The retention cleanup process will delete any excess version files present in the server. Like for example, if the retention version count or retention period configuration is reduced in the client machine, then the backup server can be forced to clean up these excess versions of the files by running the Run Retention Cleanup(the client should have connected at least once after the retention was changed for the backup schedule in the client).

    12. Change Client Side Settings : The backup settings on the client such as Backup Window, Bandwidth Throttling, Automatic Software Update options can be changed from the backup server. Also Adding a Backup Schedule is also possible. These changes made in the backup server will be picked up by the client and the client will automatically apply them. The settings that are shown in this page may not be the same present in the client currently.

    13. Export backup : The backup data can be exported to any destination location by clicking on this icon. This feature allows the user to export the backup data and the backup database to the user given destination location as a "Local" backup type which is then used to restore by attaching the data to the Client (using Local backup "Disaster Recovery "). Instead of restoring the backup data from the client by connecting the backup server, using this feature, the data can be restored quickly from the client machine itself thereby saving time and bandwidth usage. The backup is exported as a "Local " backup for this purpose.

The export of backup data can be executed with two options namely

      • With a prefix name (Alias name) - If the user wishes to attach the exported backup data and restore it in the case where the backup already exists in the Client, then this option should be used.Otherwise the backup cannot be attached to the Client using "Disaster recovery " (as the backup names are always unique for a client) . Here, the backups are exported by using a user given prefix name and the backup is exported in the format "Prefix_Backup_Name ".

Important Note:: The backup(s) exported with this option can be attached to the Client and can only be used to restore the backup data. The backup options like "Schedule ", "Suspend/Resume ", "Edit " is not available for such backups.

      • Without prefix name - If the user wishes to attach the exported backup data in the client and restore it in the case where the client is freshly installed with the same " ID ", then this option can be used. For such backups, all the backup options like "Schedule ", "Suspend/Resume ", "Edit ", "Restore " are available.

Troubleshooting Tips

Limitations

  • Limitations for Export backup feature:

    1. "Abort/Suspend" of Export of backup data is currently not available.

    2. For "Cluster enabled" backup servers, the backup data can be exported only in the backup servers where the client is "Node locked". It cannot be exported from the other backup servers available in that Cluster.

    3. Export of backup data is not available for servers installed as an "Amazon machine instance(AMI)"
