View List Of Backup Clients

This list displays following details about the clients backing up to the selected customer:

  • Client Name : This is the ID of the client backing up to the server. Clicking on the link here will open the list of backup schedules page.

  • Needed MCALs : The total MCALs needed by the client for the current month.

  • Total MCALs used till date : The total MCALs used by the client from the beginning till now.

  • Next MCALs Usage Date : The date at which the client will use MCALs for the next month. If the client is still in trial, this mentions the date at which the trial period will expire.

  • Allotted Space : The disk space allotted for this client in the server. The disk space allotted is shown as AUTO, if the client is configured to automatically allot disk space as per customer's disk space limitation.

  • Used Space : The disk space used by the backup data from this client.

  • Total Backups : Number of backup schedules the client has configured for backup to the server.

  • Actions : The icons under this column are links to various features to enable you to administer and manage the backup clients.

Enable / Disable Auto Authorization : If a client is set to 'Enable Auto Authorization', then the client can backup to the backup server without having to authenticate with the backup server. If the client is set to 'Disable Auto Authorization', then the client has to be first added in the backup server and then the client should authenticate itself with the backup server before it can start backing up to the backup server.

Activate/Deactivate Client : This Activate/Deactivate action can help the Backup Server administrator to decide whether to accept/reject the individual client's backing up to the server.

If a client is Deactivated on the Backup Server, further backup schedules from the client is rejected by the backup server.

Backup Server Administrator can Activate the client again by clicking the same action.

Edit Configuration : Clicking on this icon will take you to the "Edit Client Configuration" page, where you can specify specific configuration options (backup location, disk space, client password etc.) for this client in the server.

Reset Password : Clicking on this icon will reset the password for this client in this server. Once the password is reset, the client, if it uses the old password, will not be allowed to backup. If auto authorization is enabled, the client can in turn reset the password in the client and continue backing up to the server.

Delete Client : Clicking on this icon will take you to the "Delete Client" page from where you can delete the clients and all its backup data.

Deleted Report : Clicking on this icon will take you to the "Deleted Backup Report", which will list in a table format the list of backup schedules and data that has been deleted under this client.

Change Trial To Paid : Clicking on this action converts the trial client to paid client.

NOTE: After you convert a trial client to paid client, you cannot revert back.

Change Client Side Settings : The backup settings on the client such as Backup Window, Bandwidth Throttling, Automatic Software Update options can be changed from the backup server. Also Adding a Backup Schedule is also possible. These changes made in the backup server will be picked up by the client and the client will automatically apply them. The settings that are shown in this page may not be the same present in the client currently.

Export backup : The backup data can be exported to any destination location by clicking on this icon. This feature allows the user to export the backup data and the backup database to the user given destination location as a "Local" backup type which is then used to restore by attaching the data to the Client (using Local backup "Disaster Recovery "). Instead of restoring the backup data from the client by connecting the backup server, using this feature, the data can be restored quickly from the client machine itself thereby saving time and bandwidth usage. The backup is exported as a "Local " backup for this purpose.

The export of backup data can be executed with two options namely

With a prefix name (Alias name) - If the user wishes to attach the exported backup data and restore it in the case where the backup already exists in the Client, then this option should be used.Otherwise the backup cannot be attached to the Client using "Disaster recovery " (as the backup names are always unique for a client) . Here, the backups are exported by using a user given prefix name and the backup is exported in the format "Prefix_Backup_Name ".

Important Note:: The backup(s) exported with this option can be attached to the Client and can only be used to restore the backup data. The backup options like "Schedule ", "Suspend/Resume ", "Edit " is not available for such backups.

Without prefix name - If the user wishes to attach the exported backup data in the client and restore it in the case where the client is freshly installed with the same " ID ", then this option can be used. For such backups, all the backup options like "Schedule ", "Suspend/Resume ", "Edit ", "Restore " are available.

Troubleshooting Tips

Limitations

  • Limitations for Export backup feature:

    1. "Abort/Suspend" of Export of backup data is currently not available.

    2. For "Cluster enabled" backup servers, the backup data can be exported only in the backup servers where the client is "Node locked". It cannot be exported from the other backup servers available in that Cluster.

    3. Export of backup data is not available for servers installed as an "Amazon machine instance(AMI)"
