Configuration Settings for Trial Clients

Overview

A new client machine backing up to a backup server is under 'Trial Mode' by default. You can set the various configurations for Trial Clients from this page.

How to get here in the Web Console?
In the top menu, select: "Server Admin->Reseller Management" and click on the "Trial Client Settings" Icon on the left hand side.

Trial Client Settings

  • Space allocation for trial clients
By default, the disk space for the trial clients are configured to be AUTO allocated - i.e., the client can continue to use up the disk space in the backup server as long as the space limit for the customer under which it is listed doesn't exceed. Instead, you can also limit the Trial client's disk space usage by setting a max space limitation in this page.

  • Trial Period
You can select the trial Period (max up to 30 days) in 'number of days' for the Trial Clients. After this Trial Period, the clients will be deactivated in the Server. The 'Trial Period' is calculated from the time the client first connects to the Server. By default, the trial period is 30 days.

  • Automatically delete trial clients at the end of trial period
You can select the number of days after which 'Trial Clients' and their respective data will be automatically deleted in the Server. Note that the delete period is calculated from the end of the trial period, i.e., after the trial is completed. By default, this is 90 days.

  • Default trial client activation status
By default, trial clients automatically start in 'activated mode'. By exercising this option, you can choose to start trial clients in a deactivated state. You will need to manually activate the trial clients before they can start backing up.

Troubleshooting Tips

When the Trial Clients could not backup Show/Hide

Cause 1: Customer /Client Used space exceeds allotted space.

Solution : Check for the space allotted for the Trial Clients or their Customer . Increase/Decrease space as needed for the Trial Client or their Customer .

Cause 2 : Client is DeActivated.

Solution : Check for the Activate/DeActivate Status in this configuration; ensure trial clients start off 'activated' or that you manually activate them as required

Cause 3 : Trial Period expired (for the client)

Solution : Check the Trial Period configured in the above settings. If you wish the client to be active again, increase the Trial Period. Thereafter, change the 'Deactivated' status of the Client to 'Activate'. Now the client can connect to the Backup Server.

Limitations

  1. Change in 'Backup Space' will effect only new clients (i.e. from the time the change is implemented) and will have no (retrospective) effect on existing clients.
