Configure Automatic Software Updates for Backup Server(from Replication Server)

Overview

From v2.4, backup server can automatically download updates from the replication server and upgrade themselves. The updates have to be first uploaded in the replication server and then the uploaded files have to be selected from the replication server web console. The backup server machine will check the replication server for available updates every one hour (when there is no activity in the backup server). If an update is available in the replication server, it will automatically download and install it, when there is no client or server activity in the backup server. The backup server will download and update only the compatible updates from the replication server.

How to get here in the Web Console?
In the top menu, select: "Server Management -> Software Update -> Configuration" page.

Configure Automatic Software Updates

Software update from replication server is enabled by default from v2.4. But to do automatic software update from replication server to backup server, the replication server is to be chosen manually.

If the user has manually disabled software update in the backup server, then it is not enabled by default when the server is upgraded to a higher version. The user will have to manually enable it to make it functional again.

  • Turn on Automatic Software Update: Select this option to enable Automatic Software Update. Once enabled, backup server will check with the replication server every one hour for the availability of new updates. If updates are available in the replication server (selected below), it will automatically download it to the location (specified below) and then install the updates and restart automatically.

    • Select the server to download update(s) from: In this page, both the backup server and replication server will be listed. You can select the replication server from which the backup server will download the updates.

    • Specify the location to store downloaded update(s): The location in the backup server system where the downloaded updates will be stored. Make sure can write to that location. By default, will store the downloaded updates in the "<SG Home>/downloadedUpdates/" folder.

  • Turn off Automatic Updates: This option is to disable the automatic software update feature.
