Adding a Software Update in the backup server
Overview
supports Automatic Software Update from v2.3. When client updates are added in the backup server, the clients automatically can download the update from the backup server and upgrade themselves.
Software updates can be added in the backup server through this page. Client machines check the backup server for available updates every one hour (when the client is not backing up/when there is no client activity). If an update is available in the backup server, the client will automatically download and install it.
Note: Software update is available only for clients running v2.3 or higher. If a client is running a version older than v2.3, then it should upgraded manually to v2.3 and upgrade to the later versions can then be done through the software update feature.
How to get here in the Web Console?
In the top menu of Backup Server, select: "Server Management -> Software Update -> Add Builds" page.
Adding a Software Update in the backup server
Add new build/patch to the backup server: With every new patch/build released, installation and configuration files will be provided in exe/bin & xml file format respectively. These files should be copied to the client update location in the backup server. The configuration file [.xml] will have the version and build details of the new build/patch.
Once the build and configuration files are copied to a location in the backup server, select the location where the update is stored and then click on 'List Build File(s)' button. This will list the updates available. You can then select the ones you want to expose to the clients and click 'Add Build Files' button.
Troubleshooting Tips
Limitations
The automatic software update feature in the client machine checks for new updates available in the configured update server [backup server] every 1 hour and this schedule is not configurable.
The automatic software update will download and update the latest build only if there is no backup/restore/delete activity at the client side.
If there exists any application for intrusion detection [such as Zone Alarm], application may not start automatically after auto upgrading to the latest version. You need to manually start application.
