Add Cluster Node

Overview

Through this feature a record of a new Server instance (Node) can be added to an existing Cluster. The record includes the external IP or DNS Lookup name and the backup port numbers at which the Server will be accepting requests. Later when is installed in that Server instance (identified by the ID), the will be automatically be installed with the backup ports as specified here. If is installed in a Server without first adding a record for it in this page, then the on that server will be installed with the backup ports as specified during the installation.

It is recommended that the Server nodes of the cluster be first added here especially when the Server nodes are behind a NAT sharing the same external IP address or DNS lookup name. This is because, when they share the same external IP address/DNs lookup name, it is important that the Server nodes run on different backup ports so the NAT can redirect the incoming requests to the right server based on the backup port. This page helps you to make sure you specify unique (external IP+backup port) combination for each server node.

Note: You don't have to add the Server nodes in this page before installing in them if the requests come to them from the internal network or when each server node is installed on a machine that is available at an unique external IP.

How to get here in the Web Console?
In the top menu, select "Server Management -> Cluster Management -> Add Cluster Node" page.

Add Cluster Node

When a new Server instance is started within a cluster, it registers itself with the Cluster using the Cluster Node configuration specified here.

Here are the steps to add a Node to the Cluster

Step 1: Specifies the name of the Cluster. This is non-editable.

Step 2: Specify the ID or the node name of the cluster node.

Step 3: Specify the external IP address or DNS lookup name at which the requests coming to the Node will be sent to. Typically this is the external IP/DNS lookup name of the NAT that forwards the requests to the Node.

Step 4: Specify the non-SSL Backup Port at which installed in the node will be listening on.

Step 5: Specify the SSL Backup port at which installed in the node will be listening on.

Step 6: Save the Cluster Node configuration

Once added, the Cluster Node will be listed in the List Cluster Nodes page.

NOTE: It is recommended to have Servers register automatically to the cluster when running clients and servers in a LAN environment.
