Server Settings

How to get here in the StoreGrid Web Console?
In the top menu, select: "Server Admin->Server Management->Server Settings"

This page is used to configure StoreGrid server settings.

The table on the right (titled: Server Disk Space Utilization) gives details about this server's disk space utilization and availability for each partition.

The table on the left (titled: Server Settings) gives the various options for server settings, some of which are configurable:

Server Settings

Server Name - Non-editable field displaying the StoreGrid peer name.

Backup Location - This is the directory into which all the client backups are stored. Note that if we change this location, the new directory will take effect only for the new clients backing up to this server. Backup data of all existing clients who are already backing up on to this server will still be stored in the same location. You can edit this directory location either manually or by selecting the backup location from the directory tree by clicking the button provided at the end of the text box.

Backup Space Allotted - By default, the total backup space allotted in the server will be 30% of the free disk space available. You can change this value to set the total backup space in this server allotted for all the StoreGrid clients (ensure you’ve selected MB/GB correctly).

CPU Utilization Settings - This is used to specify how this server’s CPU should be utilized by the StoreGrid process when clients are backing up on to this server. This is especially useful if this server is a desktop with a user actively using it. Setting it to Low will make the StoreGrid process do the backup slowly without taking much CPU so that it is least intrusive. If this is a dedicated Backup Server, then the CPU Utilization should be set to high so that backups can happen fast.

Replication Status - This is used to know whether Replication is enabled for the BackupServer.

Replication Server - If Replication is enabled, this field displays the Replication Server Name. You can choose the replication server from the "Server Admin->Replication Management->Configure Replication" page. You can learn more about how StoreGrid server replication works from the section Replication of StoreGrid server.

Replication Password (Applicable only to Replication server) - This is the password that backup servers need to authenticate against before replicating to this replication server.

Bandwidth Throttling (Applicable only to Backup server) - StoreGrid's Bandwidth Throttling feature enables the user to limit the bandwidth usage for a backup schedule. Bandwidth can be configured at the backup server level, customer and client levels. The user needs to specify the following fields:

  • Enable bandwidth throttling: Choose to enable or disable bandwidth throttling. If enabled, there are again two options:

    • Throttle bandwidth always: Choose to enable bandwidth throttling every time the transfer of data takes place.

    • Throttle bandwidth from: Specify the time period when bandwidth throttling is enabled.

  • Throttle each backup to maximum of: Rate to limit bandwidth usage.

Save Button - Once all the above options are set, click the "Save" button to save the server settings.

Note that the backup location, backup space etc. can be individually configured for each of the StoreGrid clients from the Client Backup Configuration page.

Server Disk Space Utilization

This displays the disk space details of the machine.

  • Used Backup Space - A non-editable field displaying the backup space used by all the backup clients backing up to this server.

  • Free Backup Space - A non-editable field displaying the free backup space available for backup.

  • MSPEUs added to date - A non-editable field displaying the total number of MSPEUs added to the backup server.

  • MSPEUs utilized to date - A non-editable field displaying the total number of MSPEUs used in the backup server.

Backup Location Details

In StoreGrid, multiple backup locations can be configured to store the backup data. This page gives information about these different backup locations on the backup server.

  • Backup Location - Location on the backup server where the backup data is stored.

  • Used Space - Total space occupied by the backup data in the given location.

  • Number of Backups - Total number of backups in the given location.
