Add a New Customer

How to get here in the StoreGrid Web Console?
In the top menu, select: "Server Admin->Customer Management" and click on the "Add New Customer" Icon on the left hand side.

While you have the option of retaining all your clients under the 'Default Customer', you may find it more manageable to segregate your customers. Note that a customer can have multiple PCs/servers (clients) which need to be backed up. You need to add the customer to the server first before adding the clients under the customer. Clients can easily be shifted from one customer to another.

You need to provide the following information while adding a new customer:

Set Customer Information - At the bare minimum, you need to give the customer a name. Other customer information like Email, Postal Address, Phone etc is primarily to help you keep 'organized' records.

Set Basic Configuration - Here's where you configure some basic server settings specific to the customer: licenses to be allotted, authentication requirements, default starting state, etc.

You can configure the following settings for the customer:

  • Allow / Deny Auto Authorization : If you want the clients in this customer site to backup without your adding the client names (StoreGrid IDs) manually in the server, then keep the Auto Authorization enabled for this customer (RECOMMENDED OPTION). Note that if you disable Auto Authorization for a customer (say, ABC Inc.) and if ABC Inc. has 5 MSPEUs allocated to it, then you can allow clients from ABC Inc. to backup until the 5 MSPEUs are used. The Clients will be automatically created in the server when the clients backup to this server for the first time. Please note that only StoreGrid clients tagged with the customer name ABC Inc. (entered during installation) will be allowed to backup to this server under the customer ABC Inc. Clients without a valid customer name would come under the Trial Customer and hence not use MSPEUs.

  • Default Status when starting: Activate /Deactivate : Only active customers' clients are allowed to backup to the server. By default all customers start off 'Activated'. If you prefer to start this customer in a deactivated state, you can do so. Of course, you can prevent a customer (and hence all the clients under the customer) from backing up to the server by simply deactivating the customer at any time.

Consolidated Report : You can choose to send a ‘Consolidated Customer Report’ of all clients under this customer. Specify the Email ID of the recipient(s) and the frequency of generation of the consolidated customer report (Daily/Weekly/Monthly)

MSPEUs Utilization Snapshot :

  • Total MSPEUs On Server - This shows the total number of MSPEUs added to the Server.

  • Total MSPEUs Used On Server - This shows the total number of MSPEUs used in the Server (by all clients across customer groups).

  • Total Available MSPEUs On Server - This shows the total number of currently available MSPEUs in Server.

  • Automatically/Manually Allot MSPEUs - By enabling the Automatic allocation option, StoreGrid server automatically allots MSPEUs required for this customer. This is the recommended modus operandi! However, if you wish, you can restrict the number of MSPEUs to be allotted for the customer. If/when this limit is reached no more backups will be permitted till you manually increase the MSPEUs for this customer.

Space Utilization Snapshot :

  • Total Backup Space On Server - The total disk space configured in the Server for the backup data.

  • Total Backup Space Allotted to Customers - The sum of the disk space allotted to the different customers in the Server.

  • Free Backup Space available in server - The free space available in the server that is not allocated to any customer. It is difference between total backup space in the server and the total backup space allotted to customers.

  • Backup Location - The backup data of all the clients under this customer is stored in this location.

  • Allotted Space - The disk space allotted for the backups from the clients under this customer.

The link “Edit Disk Space Allotted for Server/Customer/Client” takes the user to Server Admin -> Disk Space Management. . This lists the customers, their clients and their backup schedules with their MSPEU and Space details. The space settings can be edited here.

Bandwidth Throttling :

StoreGrid's Bandwidth Throttling feature enables the user to limit the bandwidth usage for a backup schedule. Bandwidth can be configured at the backup server level, customer and client levels.

  • Use server's global configuration - Select server's bandwidth throttling configurations by choosing the option Yes or select No to manually configure bandwidth for this customer. To manually configure bandwidth, enter the fields listed below:

    • Enable bandwidth throttling for this customer - Choose to enable or disable bandwidth throttling.

    • Throttle bandwidth always - Choose this option to enable bandwidth throttling throughout the day.

    • Throttle bandwidth from - Choose this option to enable bandwidth throttling only during the specified hours of the day.

    • Throttle each backup to maximum of - The rate to which bandwidth should be throttled.
