Upgrading MySQL on backup server

Postby jprateragg » Fri Dec 21, 2012 10:53 am

I'm running StoreGrid Pro 4.2.5 with MySQL 5.1 on Server 2008 R2. I'd like to upgrade to MySQL 5.5. Is this recommended/supported? What is the supported version of MySQL 5.5? What about the ODBC connector? Thanks!

Probably not. I don't think StoreGrid will work with 5.5 right now. I'm sure Vijay will chime in.

I'm pretty sure our replication servers are using 5.5 though...

Hmm, maybe they've changed this in more recent releases, but I had major issues when I attempted to install StoreGrid server by using the 5.5 installer instead of the one that comes bundled with the official installer. I was told I had to use the integrated 5.1 bundle.

Hi jprateragg,

Yes. You can upgrade your MySQL from MySQL 5.1 to MySQL 5.5 and keep the ODBC connector as it is. Our latest official online installer also has MySQL 5.5.

Please follow the below steps to upgrade the MySQL server 5.1 to MySQL Server 5.5

1. Dump the MySQL database (mysql.sql).
2. Dump all other databases as well.
3. Copy the MySQL db storage location (data dir).
4. Copy the MySQL configuration file (my.ini/my.cnf).
5. Uninstall the MySQL server 5.1 installation.
6. Install the MySQL server 5.5.
7. Before starting MySQL server 5.5 copy the data folder of MySQL server 5.1 to current installation.
8. start the MySQL Server using below commands
For Windows : mysqld.exe --skip-grant-tables -u root
For Linux : mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables -u root &
9. Import the MySQL database dump file (mysql.sql).
10. Run the below command to upgrade the databases.
mysql_upgrade -u root -ppassword
11. Stop and Start MySQL Server normally.
