How would you describe the challenges faced by your customers?
Some of our customers were using different backup software packages that were bundled with the server at the time of purchase and these were a nightmare to manage and monitor.
Unreliable backup technologies had resulted in cases of data disasters before Tech North started offering backup solutions to them. Some customers previously had implemented tape and disk based backup solutions using full-fledged servers on-site and continually ran into problems with restores, tape replacements and business continuity protection.
After attending to our customer’s data disasters, we decided to upgrade to a better data backup solution that was easier to monitor, had smarter technology and one that we could sell as a service, instead of single license sale.
What lead to your partnership with Vembu StoreGrid?
Tech North Solutions services a mixed environment of Windows and Linux servers and hence a cross-platform backup solution was important to us. After exploring a lot of backup software options, we zeroed in on StoreGrid since it is reliable and easy to deploy and plays nice with both Windows and Linux.
Right from day one, we liked the user interface and reporting capabilities of Vembu StoreGrid. We also liked the fact that StoreGrid can be completely re-branded as a full-fledged online backup solution for our customers.

How smooth was your StoreGrid installation?
Implementing StoreGrid backup software at Tech North was very straight forward as we already had a key component – a Linux server at our Data Center. We dedicated this to StoreGrid with redundant hog disk space for client data.
When installing the client agent, we setup a customer email alias for each client for StoreGrid to deliver its nightly reports to. This allows us to keep the client in the loop while directing the reports to the technician tasked with monitoring success and failures. We also roll out installs remotely using remote support tools.
The implementing technician chooses a backup server to point to, selects the appropriate port on our outside router and we're in business!
